Bowie City Council Member Trouth donates his City Council Salary

First term Bowie City Council Member Trouth wanted to do something to give back to the community. So he took $10,000, which he saved in a saving account that was deposits of his council salary to look for something beneficial to his District 4 and Bowie, Maryland residents.

Council Member Trouth learned that there are Bond Bills in the Maryland House and Senate to help organizations with long lasting purposes where a match of funds is possible from the State of Maryland. There were two schools in need of play ground and recreational equipment. The two schools are Pointer Ridge Elementary School, which is in District 4 and Bowie High School. Council Member Trouth was successful in getting a matching grant through the State of Maryland’s Bond Bill program for $10,000 with help from State Senator Douglas JJ Peters.

Pointer Ridge Elementary School will receive a total of $8,000 for play ground equipment: Council Member Trouth’s $4,000 matched by $4,000 from the State of Maryland. Bowie High School will receive a total of $12,000 for recreational equipment for a special Early Child Development Program for third and fourth graders that is unique for a High School: Council Member Trouth’s $6,000 and a $6,000 State of Maryland match. There will be a formal presentation with the Maryland State 23rd Delegation, Prince George’s County Public School members and Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Maryland, Inc. representatives.

The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Maryland, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization, was used as a pass through of Council Member Trouth’s funds to facilitate the State of Maryland’s Bond Bill criteria. The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Maryland, Inc. was created in 1990 when Council Member Trouth was Polemarch (President) of Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni, as his vision to raise money from other sources to increase the chapter’s scholarships, Guide Right effectiveness and community activities. Council Member Trouth relied on Leon Walker who implemented the process and created the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Foundation of Maryland, Inc. as a fundraising arm for Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter.
